It was made in honor of the Queen consort of Italy, Margherita of Savoy. Its toppings are fresh sliced tomatoes, fresh sliced Mozzarella, and fresh basil leaves. It represents the colors of the Italian flag. It was the first pizza to use cheese, the pizza’s we all know and love today.
